5th and 6th day

Okay again, sorry for the late update but the car has not been cooperating so we have making slow progress. We arrived at Carlsbad, NM yesterday after stopping every 40 miles to let the car cool off. We stayed at the Stagecoach Inn and haven't had problems yet. This morning we went to the caverns and took the self guided tour of the Natural Entrance and it was spectacular! We descended 754 feet in 1 mile and it was about 50°f so that was a nice break from the heat. Once done descending, we took another self-guided tour of the Big Room. Then wetook the elevator up and ate lunch. Later onwe took the ranger-led tour of King's Palace. The neatest thing about that was when we did a blackout (turning out all the loghts to show how it would be w/out a light) I was selected to flip the switch. That was pretty cool. Once that tour was done we just hung around the visitor center and waited for the bat flight. It is "advertised" that hundreds of thousands fly out at the same time but we saw probably about 200 over a 2 hour span. Pretty pitiful! But that almost never happens so if you do visit, I'm sure you won't be disapointed. We then drove back to the hotel and ordered Domino's with about an hour wait so we are still waiting! Stay tuned!

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have power in the back, FINALLY!!!

4th Day

Sorry for the late update, it was a long day and we were exhausted. Another tiring day on the road from McComb, MS to Ranger, TX alomst 600 miles. Along the way, we met more family and had a more than satisfying steak dinner. Temperatures were close to unbearable but we made it. Tomorrow (today) the humidity will hopefully start to fade and it won't be as bad. It's another 6 hours to White's City, NM so if we leave around 8:00 or 9:00 we will get there around dinner time. The power in the back still isn't fixed. Stay tuned for tomorrow's update!

3rd Day

Ah a nice relaxing day spending time with our family in McComb, MI and a wonderful dinner at Mr.Whiskers consisting of fried catfish, fried pickles, fried potatoes, and fried bread. Although not very eventful, we have potentially fixed our power problem in the back with a new fuse! And we have filled up the car with ethanol-free gas which is a plus. Tomorrow we will head toward Carlsbad Caverns NP and stay the night somewhere in texas. Stay tuned for tomorrow's update.

2nd Day (cont.)

Well after an extremely long day on the trace, we are finally in McComb!!! Although there is still no battery in the back, we managed to get internet. Hope that our system of opperation doesn't crash on us! We had dinner at a Sonic and it was the best meal from there I've ever had! Stay tuned for tomorrow's update.

2nd Day

We woke up this morning at about 7:00 central time. We were told about a bakery called Lovelette's and their buiscuits whom are located in Nashville, TN so we may try that out but it's a long way from Cookeville, TN (where we are now) to be getting breakfast there. We will take the Natchez Trace Pkwy today and stop at a restaurant by the name of Chad's for lunch. Hopefully the shade will be kind. It's 550 miles to McComb, MS via Natchez so hope it's worth it! We will do our best to update again later in the day!

First Day

Today we left Fredericksburg at about 1:00pm but only after getting a shake at carl's and filling up the car. We drove for what seemed like forever to a gas station about 45 miles from the Virginia/Tennessee border. We then hit the road again until we reached Knoxville, TN and had an awesome pulled pork platter and naked buffalo wings. If you are ever in the area, check it out (Dead End Barbeque) it was delicious! We then drove another 80 or so miles to the Red Roof Inn. The temperature stayed under 100°f  and humidity was comparatively low at no more than 60%. In all we drove about 550 miles and with about 8 miles to the gallon that's about 65 gallons if my calculations are correct. With gas prices about $3.52 I don't even want to think about it! All in all it was a long drive but today was probably the longest so if the temperature cooperates, we'll live.
